Developing a DIY electro-conductivity sensor

As part of our project for the development of an aquaculture water quality sensing platform it would be great if we could reduce the costs of the sensors as much as possible. To achieve this, we would like to replace the electro conductivity sensor, which is an expensive off-the-shelf product, with our own cheap version. There are examples of how this can be done using the measurement of current running through water. This project should develop a prototype and for this sensor, and determine its accuracy, to see if this is a viable avenue to pursue.

An initial pointer on developing a $3 electro-conductivity sensor can be found on hackaday and should be used as the basis for further investigation. A commercial EC sensor can be used for validation.  For more information on the sensors we want to develop, check our sensor documentation.
