Status: Project idea
A really cool project on conservationx is looking for people to help. ConservationX is a Digital Makerspace that tries to solve conservation issues with cool technology.
In this project they want to upgrade traditional cameratraps, used for taking pictures of animals in the wild, from using a simple motion sensor and camera, which often create false positives, bad pictures and waste battery, into an advanced system that uses computer vision and machine learning to correctly identify when an animal is in frame and only then take a good picture. Together with a wide angle camera for a bigger field of view, and solar power, this will lead to better data with less effort for conservationists/scientists to make sense of it.
